Skin Specialist Centre Stage 2 involved significant refurbishment to the northern end of the existing facility. The proposed alterations provided for new procedure rooms and other supporting areas.
Challenges & Solutions
Stage 1 was to be occupied during construction of Stage 2. As part of Stage 1 design (by others), the building had numerous unnecessary exits. As part of our assessment methodology, we considered a holistic approach of the building’s means of escape from fire which also includes assessing the overall building covering the area of works per Stage 1, where the means of escape from Stage 2 needs to be considered.
Results
As a result we were able to optimise egress strategy and remove stairs and exists reducing the construction cost while allowing design flexibility.
